From WRAL Out & About...
“Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has revealed more details about its upcoming video store concept in Raleigh.
The franchise is planning an 11-screen theater, bar and restaurant at 2116 New Bern Ave. It is expected to open in the first quarter of this year. That location will also be Alamo’s first Video Vortex store. A re-imagining of the classic video rental store, Video Vortex will have more than 30,000 titles on DVD, Blu-ray and VHS. There will be a large selection of rare VHS tapes that are not available in digital formats. VCRs, complete with HDMI to RCA adapters, will also be available for rental.
On Wednesday, Alamo Drafthouse announced that Video Vortex will offer thousands of video rentals for free.
“This collection of over 75,000 titles includes the best, worst and weirdest of cinema from dozens of countries across the globe, including hundreds of complete catalogs of film’s greatest auteurs. Whether you’re an action junky, a horror-hound, a Francophile or in search of some insane oddities, Video Vortex will offer you an unparalleled selection, for free,” Video Vortex manager Kat Shuchter said.
Video Vortex will also sell Blu-rays, film-related merchandise and selections from Mondo, which specializes in film-inspired clothing and art. Mondo will also be curating a selection of board games that will be available for free play in the beer garden or patio or for purchase. The store will also feature a lounge with 40 local draft beers on tap and crowlers (canned growlers) available to take home. There will also be a grab-and-go selection of bombers and six-packs of local and hard to find beers. ...”
